Google My Tracks
« on: September 05, 2011, 06:02:13 PM »
I am experimenting with the Google My Tracks app on my Android phone. The accuracy seems pretty good so far but I have a question on how altitude is computed. The app shows about 7,100 ft. of climbing both in my phone and when I look at the track on Google Maps. However, when I import the .gpx into TF the Climbing Analysis shows over 15k of climbing.

I've attached the file to this post. What am I missing?

Thanks!

Try right clicking on the track then select "file properties", left click the "correct elevation using DEM" button. There may be somewhere else to find the correct elevation function but I have not found it.
The profile changed to 7165ft. "total climbing" and 7172ft. "total descent"  Hope that helps.

Thanks tooslow!  Looks like it's just really noisy elevation data, such that it's picking up bonus climbing.  They must be doing some extra filtering (since they know the data is quite errant) on the phone.
