Just purchased a Garmin eTrex 30 and a ANT+ heart rate monitor. The two linked up fine, but the heart rate data isn't being transferred along with the tracklog in Topofusion. Able to transfer in a convoluted manner by selecting USB Mass Storage Device, when I connect the GPS to the computer, then copying the tracklog w/ Windows Explorer.
Suggestions?
BTW, with the eTrex 30 there's lots of wasted screen space w/ data field layout... wish it was possible to fully custimize the data fields.
Thanks,
Geoff

Hi Geoff,
That's odd -- I would think the data would be there just as it is in other units, such as the Dakota. I have an eTrex 20, unfortunately, which I purchased before I realized it didn't support HR. So are you copying/opening the Current.gpx file from your 30? And TF opens that file with HR just fine? That's strange because that's all TF does, is open that file.
Let me know. I'll probably be selling my 20 and getting a 30, but not immediately.
Thanks.

Hi Scott,
Yeah, just copying/opening the Current.gpx file. Btw, the location is G:\Garmin\GPX\Current.gpx. Have upgraded the firmware to 2.4 (had to switch over the Mass Storage for the upgrade to take)... no difference.
Figured out the screen configuration w/o the Dashboards... sweet.
On a different topic, any chance of omitting the dashes in the default name save? eg. 2011-12-05 to 20111205.
Thanks,
Geoff

Wow, that is hard to believe. Can you send me a current.gpx with heart rate data in it, by any chance? I'll take a look.
No dashes! It's unreadable that way.... (at least in my opinion). What's the reason to omit them, brevity?

Attached. I can send you a larger file from a ride if required.
Yeah, for brevity. I'm used to that layout and its easy to read.
Thanks,
Geoff

Hey Scott,
I gave you the wrong location for "Current.gpx". Its actually **:\Garmin\GPX\Current\Current.gpx
Also, Topofusion isn't able to download waypoints from the eTrex 30. Waypoints are stored in individual gpx files by date in **:\Garmin\GPX\
Thanks,
Geoff

Hey Scott,
Just checking in to see if you've made any headway on the heart rate and waypoint data issues.
Thanks,
Geoff

Count me as a vote for a user editable default file name, in particular including an editable date/time format. That way I and all other users can get it so that it is just right, in OUR opinions.
I think I made this suggestion once before, long ago.

Bump. Just to let folks know that the combination of TopoFusion (v4.41) and Garmin eTrex 30 (v2.7 firmware, USB Mode set to "Mass Storage") is able to download and read the heart rate data.
