Running with WINE
« on: May 02, 2008, 11:50:43 AM »
Here is a link to some info about getting TopoFusion Pro to run with WINE:

We're working to see if we can alter a few things to clear up the remaining issues.

Hi Scott,

I have followed the instructions on the link in your message and have DirectX 9.0c installed under WINE in Ubuntu 10.10 (Linux) .  I tested it with dxdiag.exe and all the tests were successful.  When I go to install TopoFusion Pro (4.05), it stops at "GPSMaster.ocx failed to register"  I tried installing TF 4.0; TF 3.74; and TF 3.32.  They all stop with the "GPSMaster.ocx failed to register" message saying that it is either running or DirectX9 not installed.

Can I get around this some way?  Amy clues as to what is happening?

Thanks Scott,

Peter

Unfortunately I'm not really able to be of much help as I don't currently have root access on a linux machine.  Maybe soon.

As you know, that's a pretty fundamental error.  I think it suggests an installation issue more than anything having to do with DX.  You might try extracting the files yourself and putting them in a directory (if GPSMaster.ocx is in the same dir as TopoFusion.exe, it should find it), then trying to run it.

Let us know if you make any progress.  I was just thinking about trying this myself... after I get a linux box going.

Hi Scott,

I checked and the TopoFusion install did put these files into drive_c\Program Files\TopoFusion folder:

-rwxr-xr-x 1 peter peter 2609664 2010-09-22 21:05 GPSMaster.ocx
-rw-r--r-- 1 peter peter    6761 2006-10-15 19:48 License.rtf
-rw-r--r-- 1 peter peter    4212 2006-10-15 19:48 Readme.rtf
-rw-r--r-- 1 peter peter  295895 2010-09-22 14:21 revhistory.rtf
-rwxr-xr-x 1 peter peter 2371584 2010-09-22 14:44 TopoFusion.exe
-rwxr-xr-x 1 peter peter   51292 2010-10-24 17:40 uninstall.exe
-rw-r--r-- 1 peter peter     162 2010-05-14 16:24 ~$vhistory.rtf

The one change I did was to set GPSMaster.ocx to be executable, but it made no difference as I still get the same "GPSMaster.ocx failed to register" error when I re-run the install, and if I try to run TopoFusion it doesn't happen, probably because the installation was incomplete.

I don't think I am able to extract the files out of the TopoFusion-Pro-4.05.exe file as it is an executable not an archive.

Cheers,

Peter

Hmm, it looks like everything is there from the TF installer.  It may not be running because of the VB run time libs.  Try installing this:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=7B9BA261-7A9C-43E7-9117-F673077FFB3C&displaylang=en

Those are the only other dependencies it has.

Hi Scott,

No, that did not work.  I installed the VB6 stuff successfully, but the install of TopoFusion failed.  I tried running TopFusion just in case it was installed correctly in spite of the install error but it just attempts to start and then quits before I get even the splash screen.

Oh well....
