Title: Splitting a large track for upload
Post by: MWJackson on May 28, 2011, 08:06:19 AM
The tutorial posted on the website is straight forward, but in order to load the track I'm using onto my Garmin I am required to split it into 20 segments of 500 points each.  My context menu has no option for splitting the track.  Can anybody advise me on this?

TopoFusion basic doesn't have the split function, sorry!  Only the Pro version has this function.

Scott, trying to bust up the TDR2011 file since I have a Garmin Colorado 300 and only allows for 10k points.  Best way to load this is?  Simplify trackpoints or split into the 20 segments?  And which version of the software do I need to do this?  Thanks, TX

Hi,

The Colorado doesn't require splitting.  You just need to simplify the track into 10k points.  Either the Basic or Pro versions will work for that.

Let me know if you need any other help.

One more question, when it "simplifies" is it going to remove random points?  I mean I'm I going to even notice this?

It's a smart simplify.  At 10k points you'll have plenty of detail to navigate the whole thing.
