Shaded Relief

We are excited to release the next version of TopoFusion Pro, v3.90.  This version features shaded relief mapping, available for the entire world, and for all map types.  Shaded relief really brings maps alive and helps with visual understanding of the terrain.  Plus it just looks cool!!  The elevation data is downloaded automatically as you view maps, just like the map tiles are.  Once you download it, you'll always have it, with or without an internet connection.

Look for the Shaded Relief toggle on the toolbar.  Here's what it looks like:

(Also find it in the "Map" menu under Shaded Relief).

Land Ownership

Also new is the Land Ownership layer, which shows which agency (e.g. Forest Service, BLM, etc) owns a particular piece of land.  This is very useful for planning exploratory hikes, or perhaps a bikepacking trip.  The legend for the colors in the map is here:

Color Aerial Download Fix

Finally, some server changes have caused a majority of the maps in TopoFusion's Color Aerial tileset to fail to download, giving a "map missing" error.  If you are seeing these errors for your area, download the latest version and you should be good to go!

Hey Scott,

Works great! Shaded relief with color tiles on my 24 inch monitor is stunning. :)
By the way, have you considered supporting the 3D Connexion Space Navigator? (It's a 6 axis screen navigation device.) I really find mine useful; works with Google Earth, Virtual Earth, HD View (from MS Research), etc.

I have looked at the 3D Connexion device, and it looks cool and not that expensive.  I do hope to take a crack at improving the 3D mode in TopoFusion, and if that is successful I will definitely consider buying one and adding support.

Thanks Larry.

Well, the "Land Ownership" layer server changed on us, of course it was right after releasing a new version and then spouting off about it!    ::)

Fortunately the fix is easy:

1. Go to Window->WMS Custom Servers.
2. Left click to select the "Land Ownership Layer"
3. Delete everything in the large "Request" Box.
4. Replace with this string:

wmsconnector/com.esri.wms.Esrimap/BLM_MAP_SURFACE_MGT_AGY?VERSION=1.1.1&SERVICE=WMS&REQUEST=GetMap&SRS=EPSG:4326&LAYERS=BLM+Lands,US+Forest+Service,FWS,DOD,BOR,BIA,National+Parks,BLM+National+Monuments,BLM+Wilderness+Areas,BLM+National+Conservation+Areas,OTHER,STATE,LOCAL&TRANSPARENT=FALSE&FORMAT=image/jpeg

5. Hit the "Save Changes" button.
6. Close the WMS Custom Servers dialog.

You're good to go.

Fortunately with this change I think the output has improved a bit.  There seem to be more text labels.

Sorry about the issue!  The fix will make it into the next release of TopoFusion, of course.
