I am running windows 7 on the laptop, if directx has to be already installed before the topo is installed then that might be why even though I install Direct it still will not allow me to run it.  Also your response to his problem was unbelievably fast.

First off I need to know if I put a copy of your program on my laptop can I?  If not how can I do that I need to work on it at work which will not allow installs.  Second off my error is tell me that direct3d can not find a certain file.  "Can't initialize DirectX: setD3DDevice failed!  Check that you have updated to DirectX 9.0c and that your video card drivers are up to date."  if you have any suggestion Thank you

Scott thank you however I guess I just did not give you the bigger picture.  Where I ride is being under development so they have added water towers and houses.  Is it my garmin that puts the map into Topo or is satellites already part of TOPO's program?  If so how do I get updated satellites?

When I plot my path at our local trails but the map is not up-to-date.  It is missing all landmarks that will help me later on down the road.
