TopoFusion Pro / Re: Open Aerial not working in 3D mode?
« on: October 31, 2012, 07:13:58 AM »
Thanks. The elevation server came back up yesterday afternoon, just after your post...

A suggestion: It would be great to have an (semi?)automated status report for the various maps/servers on the topofusion website. That would allow users to distinguish between a server problem and a local problem.

I'm having trouble with elevation data not being downloaded when I moved to a new region (39.36508° N 117.75908° W). For the last couple of days, the status bar says "Elevation=downloading....". Elevations are loaded for other regions I use more frequently. Is there a way to force downloading of the DEM data, or to check on whether it's a server problem?

This seems to be happening for all tile sets.  I can see various map typess, some slower to load than others. Just no elevations or 3Dcapability.

Thanks!

Archived Support / Topo map mismatch progrom

I have been noticing many mismatched map borders, and tracks that don't match up with features on the maps. These are primarily at the highest topo map resolutions. For example, see Yosemite Valley at the 2M scale:

37.74976 N  119.59561 W

I suspect this is a TerraServer problem. Can something be done?

Feature Requests / Geo tagging images

I agree it would be good for TopoFusion to recognize geotagged photos, and great if it could add geotag information to photos.

A program called WWMX Location Stamper will conveniently geotag
the EXIFs of jpg photos based on times in a gpx file:

Unfortunately, most photo editing programs do not recognize the
geotags and some even obliterate the geotags.

Thanks for the quick response!

The photo thumbnails seem to work when the photos are on the local hard drive, but not when the URL prefix function is enabled.
I didn't get the forbidden  page error, though, just the camera icons with no associated photos. The waypoint properties have the correct URL to the photos on my website.

Too bad about the map boundaries issue, it would be nice if the map servers took care of the map borders and splicing.

Is there a way to improve the mapping of tracks that cross topo map boundaries? For example:

http://www.nevadarambler.info/hiking....325.gpx

This track crosses the Nevada/California border at longitude 120.00 and crosses UTM zones. Two problems: (1) Either the Nevada or California map can be seen, but not both together. (2) Where the track changes UTM zones, there is an obvious glitch in the mapping.

Neither of these problems is present with landsat images, just with the topos and aerials.

Although I like the photo waypoint thumbnails as an option, the photos can cover up too much of the map. When the photos are turned off, there's this problem: The mouse click point for opening a photo is not on the camera icon along the track, but rather where the program still thinks the photos are on the map. That makes it hard to open the photos.

This is true both within Topofusion and for the generated html files.    Example: http://www.nevadarambler.info/hiking/PeavineSE20070311/track/
