hey, the GIS layers are great, the Wilderness boundaries especially. I was able to download the files just fine on my home computer. On my work computer I get a TopoFusion error = -1. What is that?

I thought I had replied to this earlier but do not see it.
Moving is what? anything over 2mph something like that. When hiking in tough conditions, deep snow, deadfall, rock walls etc. it is hard to maintain that kind of speed.
 My not moving time can be hours on some outings. I did not know elevation gained did not count when I was levitating.:O

OK, I am new to this board and now I am posting like I've had a pint or two, forgive me.
I have noticed that the elevation gained in the attributes of the file window are quite a bit different than what the profile shows. For example on my snowshoe hike last week of California Peak in southern Colorado the attribute shows 3558' of elevation gain and the profile shows 5549'. I know the profile is the most accurate because the hike started at 9000' and the highpoint was 13849'. Why is there so much difference?

Now that you have autodownload of the DEM's would it be possible to add the elvation gain/loss along with the distance when we draw in a new route? This would be a very useful feature.

If you double click on a point in the track data window, that point will turn yellow on the map, I use this feature to accomplish what I think you are asking for.

I am not a beta tester but I have been using V2.5 for a couple of days, it has been working fantastic for me, autodownloads of the DEM's is a great upgrade.
I am a mountaineer so viewing a route in 3D before and after a climb is a very useful feature.

I used to own a Vista, before it disappeared between many large boulders. I found its altimeter to be extremely accurate once it has been on for 15 to 20 minutes. I believe Garmin described it as a GPS corrected barometric altimeter, this is how I think it worked; it would average GPS readings over a period of time and correct the barometric readings, then any small changes in barmometric pressure would change the elevation reading. Not sure exactly how all the calculations were handled but I thought it did an excellent job, often reading within a foot or two of the surveyed elevations of Colorado Mt. Summits. Of course in other areas it could be off by 20' to 30' of the Topo lines but they are only accurate to within 50' themselves so you never know what the correct reading should be.
Basically what I have been trying to say is the the Vista Barometric altimeter is not strictly barometric but a combination with GPS.
Maybe you have tried this but it is interesting to leave your GPS at one level when you first turn it on, watch the elevation slowly track one direction or the other, when it finally settles in to one elevation you know that is as good as it will get.
