scott... i just used the latest TF tonight...indeed,works like a treat and all the cool data calculations are populated...thanks so much for adding this to the program.  it's so nice to have just a single goto application for all my gps mapping needs!

anyone home?  anyway, here is a sample data file from the amod 3080 unit...it is in .log format but is basically nmea sentences.  like i mentioned above, the .log format of explorist track file seems to open and convert the file into TF ok....however all the neat data i think is off, specifically the climbing elevation is zero should be say 1000 feet, the date doesn't show up, the total time is 15777 days? but the distance, number of track points and the moving time appear to be correct.

any help would be appreciated

TopoFusion Pro / amod 3080 data logger

Hi, i got this new gps data logger.  The unit creates a .log file that is basically all NMEA sentence.  I'm having some trouble opening the file and getting data. Setting the file extension to .log file extension of Magellan almost works correctly, but there is a bunch of data that doesn't show up.  I was wondering if you could take a look at the file and help get it squared away?  Right now i'm using gpsvisualizer as a patch to convert the file to .gpx, but i want to keep using TF for everything.

found out about google earth last night, loaded it up.  it works similar to my beloved TF but it has data from around the world.

i am particulary interested in Mexico and this was the first time see aerial photos of Baja.

Can TF access the same data that google earth is using, this would really open up TF

thanks

Archived Support / out and back options on a loop trail
« on: March 27, 2005, 04:07:03 PM »
hey

i do loop rides primarily.  once and a while there is a 'scenic overlook' or something where you ride out a piece of trail or road, check something out, then return back to the loop by the same piece of trail or road.

is there any way to manipulate the data in TF?  I generally turn of the GPS once at the scenic spot so i don;t repeat the gps data.

it would be cool to designate a piece of trail as 'two way'

Archived Support / choice where to save gpx files
« on: March 25, 2005, 08:44:07 PM »
hi

i just got back from a total hard drive failure.  i've partitioned my hard drive and am trying to put programs on one drive and data on another drive.

when i download track from my unit to TF, i do not get to choose where the resulting gpx file is saved.  I want to save these files other places than the TF program folder.

dragging and moving around is tedious

Archived - Feedback and Comments / find track points from map screen
« on: February 20, 2005, 09:16:50 PM »
Right now it is impossible to look a track on the map screen and find out the details of any given track point.

I want to be able (from the map screen) to right click on a track point and find out the details of the pont with a pop-up window.
or maybe, just scolling the pointer around the screen and including on the toolbar, in addition to lat/lon, the track point info when the pointer come across a track point

right now, the trackpoint information and the map of the track are separated and no use at all...with these changes, i could quickly determine how fast i rode a particular section of trail, how fast did i make it over there.

thanks, matt

i need TF to open up .txt files from captured hyperterminal sessions with my magellan.  why?  i will be taking my magellan sportrak gps on a 7 day dirtbike ride in the summer.  my sportrak only holds 2000 track points.  i have been testing my unit on tough single track rides where a 75 miles can account for 1000 points.  at that rate, the gps will be maxed out in less than two days.

a buddy from Canada told me about hyperterminal. that way i can dialogue with the unit every night and saved the days trackpoints and send them by email to my house each night. [every hotel as a internet connection, every PC has hyperterminal whether the owner ever knows it or not]

i have found a program that opens up these text files without having to do any modification of the file, GPSUtility. But the freeware version only allows for a small number of trackpoints.  I have registered with TF instead.

seems like opening up this kind of .txt file could be a lay-up since TF can dialog and download data from my magellan.  or maybe it can do this already?

this function would really open up the power of my limited gps.

thank you for your consideration

Archived - Feedback and Comments / breaking up a 'mega-trak'
« on: February 18, 2005, 11:53:15 PM »
hey

here's something I need right now.  I was able to use Pieter's quite excellent GarTrax program to convert a huge .mps file into a large .gpx file.  Then i opend this .gpx file in TF and I now have access to the once untouchable .mps file.  This is fantastic.

a couple problems though.  The file is made up of 59 tracks! all taken taken together.  so if i click on any individual track on the map and look at properties, the properties are of the entire 59 tracks not just the particular track of interest.

is there a way you can code up a way to break up a mega-track into it individual components

thanks

Archived Support / no icons?
« on: February 15, 2005, 10:56:06 PM »
i made a couple of the trackpoints into waypoints and selected an icon.  the icons don't come up on the map, just the squares.

i put dave wissenbach program on my computer for kicks, it opens up the gpx files created with TF and it put the icons on the map?!  the same icons i wanted in TF

hey, i just found your program..i've been playing with it for 3 days now...it's just wonderful!

i'm wondering if you could have a pull down for inserting things onto the map: such as text and icons.  you could use the pointer to put these things anywhere on the make before you begin to make a jpeg for printing.

this would be helpful, for instance to put direction arrows on a loop to tell which way the loop direction is

i can finally give my Topo Usa 4 compact disc to my dog  '<img'>
