So is TF pulling "raw" data (elevation values) at each lat. and lon. that is recorded before the gps applies its algorithm that is being displayed to me?  If so, where are these values and can they be viewed or is this the the Straight GPS value?

Maybe I am analyzing this too much , but I just want to understand the process.

What I don't understand is why isn't the Straight GPS value exactly the same as what my gps is indicating?  I understand why other analysis types are different, but isn't the Straight GPS value the data that the other methods are using to get it's values?  If so, then I would assume that this would be the number that the GPS has gathered as the Total Ascent.

BTW, great blog.

Thanks again for the clarification.

TopoFusion Pro / Elevation Values

I have a Dakota 20.  I am getting differing values for the total ascent that my gps is displaying to what value TF is giving me in the Climbing Analysis tool.  The Straight GPS value TF gives me is over a 1000' difference (1000' gain).
There appears to be a difference for every track I download to TF.

Why the difference and which do I use to determine the total climbing I have done?

Thank you.

Looking at the files that were loaded in TF and comparing them to my gps, it appears the difference was due to the Dakota rounding the value.  I was thinking it was more.

Also my track was set to "Auto" so I set it to time of 1 second.  I will see if this will remedy the heart rate difference.  There is no setting specific to heart rate.  Garmin sure has a lot left to be desired with their skeleton version of an owners manual.

Thank you for the advice.

TopoFusion Pro / Distance and Heart Rate

I am using a Dakota 20 with TopoFusion Pro.

I have noticed from time to time two things when I download the data from my gps to TF.

1.  The total distance displayed on the gps tends to be greater then the length in TF.
Is there a reason this is occurring?

2.   I have made mental notes of my max. heart rate while riding when I can.  When the data is downloaded,
the max. heart rate that I have noted does not show up.
Is this a result of Garmin not capturing and saving that data or is it the way I have TF set up?

Thank you for your help.
