Waypoints on elevation profile
« on: January 28, 2009, 02:47:39 AM »
Would it be possible to have waypoints displayed on elevation profile? (somewhat like NG topo, but I really don't like their profiles) I'm thinking of things like stream or cabin names, rather than numbers.

It would be nice to get a visualization of where some features are relative to a mountain top  or valley. I've been using TF for my personal mapping, but using perfils.exe for profiles. My trail club is working on a trail guide as well as some trail assessments, and it would sure be sweet for them to be able to have landmarks / waypoints automatically put on profile.

I originally inquired about this in late 2007, iirc, and have been using perfils.exe for my workaround.

Thanks.

BTW, I love some of the lap analyses available for the tracks, esp. things like 40 mi runs. Thanks for a great product.

(Note: I have my personal copy of pro but am likely to encourage them to get their own copy for the number of profiles they might be doing.)

Thanks for the suggestion.  Others have been looking for this as well, so perhaps it is time to give it a shot.  It would definitely be useful for the event mapping that I do.

Thanks, Scott. We'd appreciate it.

Event profiles is when I started getting fussy about the profiles and really liking to see the waypoints. Here's the first 42 miles of Resurrection Pass 50 mi run race in Alaska using perfils (written by a cyclist in Spain, I think, so metric units, no choice): http://home.att.net/%7Edot.h/RPMaps/respassprofile2008_6.jpg
(also part of a longer mtn bike race)

Thanks for the example.  Vertical text does make sense.
