Title: User supplied "maps"
Post by: Fielder on January 09, 2007, 05:56:10 AM
In another program, I was able to scan (and calibrate) a better aerial photo than what was available through either Google Earth or TerraServer. I then added my tracks. Is that option available with TF (or will it be soon)? If it already is an option, please forgive my ignorance but... how do I "import" that file (it is saved as a GPX).
Also, if that feature is or soon will be available, can two or more of those imported "files" be open at the same time. I have two "maps" that basically share a boundary (there is some overlap) and I have tracks on both. I would like to be able to have both open and create a route that utilizes both maps. The analysis feature is an incredible "plus" for a "GPS" program.

The latest beta version supports user calibrated maps.  It's available now for registered users, and soon in demo form.

There's no limit to the number of maps you can display at a time, and transparency is also supported.

Can you please expound on this a little bit?

I want to scan in an ATV trail map I have as a big JPEG, calibrate it, then be able to use it in TopoFusion.  I'm registered and using 2.97.

I can't find any way to add the image or calibrate it.

Do I have to somehow add the JPEG and calibrate it outside of TopoFusion using another program?

Can you point me in the right direction?

Sure.

Check out the top thread in the anouncements forum for a look at what the new beta version can do.

To get it, use your name/code here:

http://www.topofusion.com/beta.php

It will soon be released as TopoFusion "PRO".  But for now you can get it as a beta.  There's a "User Map Library" dialog where you can add and calibrate your images.

Any chance of adding Mr Sid image support to the User Map Library?

Excellent work!

Possibly.  I don't know much about the format.  I'll have to look into how complex it is.  Might be as simple as adding a MRSid library.  If so, we'll be on it.

Wondering if you had any love with MrSid?

As always, thank you and great work!

At first examination it appears the format is fairly proprietary, and a license to the library (geoexpress) to read/write MrSid files is over $1000.

Unless there is a free/open source alternative for reading MrSid images, it's probably not going to happen in TopoFusion.

Anyone have any further info?

Yikes! What a drag.

Well, I (and I expect others) have a bunch of NAIP imagery see: NAIP Imagery in NAD83 UTM, but in MrSid Format. I'll have to research decompressors and format converters for this. Anyone already been there?
