I know this topic has been brought up previously.
But check out OZIEXPLORER. Their latest release permits you to use Google Earth and Google Maps.
(I don't know why but the Google Maps view does not include the TERRAIN VIEW).
I presume they are doing something legal within the Google constraints on saving Google Earth files on a computer.
Check it out, it looks good.
