Slope tile sets/ Color Codes on Maps
« on: December 06, 2010, 07:22:54 AM »
The biggest item on my wishlist for topofushion is to get a 'slope' tiles color code similar to the elevation tiles color code that get put directly on the map.

With user define slope colors, I could easily see avalanche danger slopes, determine the difficulty of a route, and determine what grade of protection is required. For this to work, the feature would have to allow the user to specifically define the range for which a slope would have a specific color (eg between 25-45 degrees slope is orange) as different sports have different slope considerations. Additionally, as a minimum, I would say the user would need to be able to define 4 seperate slope color ranges, to make the program versatile enought to handle hikers, bikers, climbers, etc.

I don't know of any software that currently offers this feature. Maybe its too robust of a requirement to ask for. Do you think there's any chance?

Interesting idea.  I'd be game to try it on our end and see if the results are interesting.  DEM data may not be robust enough for this, as you said, but it might look really cool even if it isn't super useful.

I'll put a note about it, for the next time I'm looking at the elevation tiles code.

Thanks.
