New Beta - v2.91
« on: July 17, 2006, 01:41:26 PM »
Some new stuff:

2.91 - [7/25/06]

Added speed shading for tracks (preferences->fonts/colors)
Added speed limit - throw out bogus speeds (prefs->units)
Added slideshow of photos during track playback (photofusion)
Added Clear button to photofusion dialog
Added "Download DEM" to climbing analysis (no more forced downloads)

---------------------------

I've been having fun with the slideshow / photofusion feature in partcular.  Kinda cool to watch the replay of a ride and have the photos pop up at the spot you took them.  It works better if you have a good image display program like ACDSee.  And even better if you have two monitors so you can view the photos in full size.

Also, I've been able to get some cool visuals of recent rides here in Golden, CO using the new speed shading:

Check it out and please post here with any ideas or problems!

Thanks.

New Beta - v2.91

Hmmm I downloaded 2.91 unzipped and OKed replacing the original files exe and ocx.  And clicking either shortcuts or the program file it starts to show the small rectangular startup picture and then it is gone.  Nothing.  No error messages Nothing.  It is installed on H: drive and the 2.85 was working.  Seems like I had trouble with it and had to install 2.85 2X  But I may be wrong.  Anyway this one is not working at all for me.  Windows task manager has no topofusion listed.  Any help?

Sorry Bob, but 2.91 is working for me, really like the speed shading feature. I need to start playiung more with PhotoFusion.

But for your in-operative program, to start, check in your TopoFusion program directory for the log file. TopoFusion.log

Open with any text program and see what ya got. Any error messages or where is it hanging?

Not sure how much more I would be able to help ya, but it's a start...

Hi Bob,

I'd try downloading 2.91 again in case it got corrupted somehow.

Failing that, look at (or post) your TopoFusion.log file, as Thomas suggested.

It might give us some clue where it is dying.  Next idea is to move your TopoFusion.ini file somewhere else (or delete it, though you'd lose settings).  That should reset all your settings and TF should at least start up.

Let us know how it goes.  Thanks.

Here is my log pasted in.  I hope it is not too long and this is the way to do it

BTW re-downloaded re-installed and the same thing happens  the program starts to come up and says Loading in the bottom corner and then nothing.  But the last two times it has also wiped out the decktop.  Start button and all --(not permanantly but I have to ctrl alt del and then shut down.)

The thing is the previous program was working fine.

New Beta - v2.91
« Reply #5 on: July 27, 2006, 11:38:20 AM »
Bob,

Thanks for posting your log.  I think I've found a long standing bug.  I'm not sure why moving to 2.91 caused it, but nevertheless, please try downloading and installing 2.91 one more time.  This time I think it will not crash.

Something is amiss with the index file, obviously, and the code we had that was supposed to take care of it had a bug itself.  Please let me know if it works or not.

If it doesn't I have a utility that will rebuild your index file based on the map data you have downloaded.

Thanks.  This one has eluded us for some time.

Oppps Still crashed.  I am not sure it has anything to do with 2.91.  I have had previous versions installed on C:  I think it has something to do with the drive.  Maybe not following the drive letter for the index file.  I tried reinstalling everything on c:programs/topofusion and it works fine.

Do not think I need to but thanks.  I now can get it to work on c drive, I just really do not want it there.  A second observation.  After I installed the trial version on H: and unzipped the Beta I then double clicked on the Topofusion.exe file -- It tried to _install_ a set of programs that I had gotten over a year ago.  MS is wierd.  Also the new version of the program although it does not come up for me on H: did not trash my desktop.  BTW here is the new log ...

New Beta - v2.91

Hum, wonder why it still crashed.  In any case, it appears your Mapindex file on C: is trashed.  You should be able to install TF wherever you want as long as you are willing to restart with no maps downloaded/saved.  Just make sure you delete the Mapindex.dat file and any MapsX.dat files.

You can also change the directory to use for map data, so TF can be on one drive and maps on another.

There WAS no Mapindex file on C:  There WAS no topofusion.exe on C:  There WAS no Topofusion folder on C:

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but The program is also no longer reading elevation data from my garmin

I'll check out the non beta

I guess I don't know what your drive setup is, but presumably there were map files from the previous (non-beta) version that you upgraded at first started having problems with...

In any case, I don't think either of these issues -- index file troubles or elevation data loss are unique to the beta.  I will anxiously await a further report about the elevation data, but that code didn't change since 2.90.

Please let me know.  Also, what GPS unit are you using?

Thanks.

Some new stuff:

Check it out and please post here with any ideas or problems!

Thanks.

Hi Krein,

The track shading works on my computer; very nice except that the current lowest speed I can set for the limit seems to be 5 mph. I would not want to throw out any gps points that are between say 3 and 5 mph, but the result is that for hiking the shaded track does not give much useful information.

Having the speed limit go down to say 2 mph would give more options - as long as doing so does not change any track data.

You might also consider a low speed limit, below which one is considered stopped, and color coded with say, black. This way you could accentuate minor changes in speed or pace.

Thanks for the feedback, Larry.

In 2.92 (out just now) I changed the speed limit to go down to 3 mph.  It doesn't throw the points out, it just colors them the maximum (whatever the limit is).

Great idea about setting the low speed limit.  There's already an implicit lower limit in the calculation of "moving time", but depending on the activity, this value really needs to be changed.  I'll try to get it into the next version.

Thanks.

Krein, perhaps ideally the 'speed sufficient to be considered moving' could be set in two different areas; one for the calculations displayed in the track data, which presumably one would not adjust after a value is chosen, and additionally it could be set differently in the track shading dialog.

Say I wanted to get a feeling for my uphill hiking. I could set the lower limit to say 1 mph, and the upper to 2 mph to get the maximum number of shading colors. However this wouldn't work for downhill. Here maybe I might want to change the limits to maybe 1.5 to a max of 3 mph. A runner or bike rider could use other limits to see minor changes in speed in different areas of ride or run.

But no need to change the overall moving time displayed in the track data.

I'm being as clear as mud again I think!  '<img'>
