Upgraded from 2.97 to 3.12
« on: July 11, 2007, 04:35:16 PM »
I just upgraded from 2.97 to 3.12. I installed the Direct X 9c and I'm running under Windows 2k. I'm getting some really strange graphics issues. I see blocks of green where a city name may be displayed. None of the routes display the correct color either.

Sounds like a graphics card issue.

Try checking for more up-to-date drivers with your video card company.

I had a laptop, with an older ATI mobility chip that exhibited just what you describe.  Finding good drivers was a challenge, but it took care of the problem.

I have the most recent display driver. My display card only has 32MB of RAM and I was looking for the requirements for 3.12. That could be the cause on this machine. I'll have to downgrade back to 2.97 for now.

Right.  The video ram requirement is not hard and fast.  I think that laptop only has 16mb, yet it runs ok.

The problem is that smaller cards like these are older and likely don't have the driver support for full DX9.

Is it an ATI?  If so, you could try the ATI "Omega" drivers (third party).

The latest from ATI didn't work for me, but the omega drivers did.  There are Nvidia omega drivers that some folks have had success with too.

Good luck.

Its NVidia GeForce4 440 Go on a Dell Latitude C840. I've tried both Dell and Nvidia and the driver is the same. Direct X 9.0c installed without a hitch and does test fine on the system (dxdiag, both direct draw and 3d)

Yep.  Similar to mine, and the exact same era.  DX9 claims to be working fine, and indeed if you look in the TopoFusion.log there probably aren't any DX errors, but the rendering is not correct.

You might still try the Omega drivers.  Otherwise, it's back to the old version.
