Topo 2M ?
« on: August 02, 2005, 09:00:24 PM »
Hi,

I just purchased TopoFusion.  So far it is great.  It works really well with my eTrex Vista and has been great to download riding tracks to see the trails on the map.

I am having trouble though...  The Topo 2M maps won't download.  The Topo 4M and above download quickly on my cable modem.  Even the Aerial 1M maps download pretty fast.

Is there something I can do to resolve this issue?  Or a way to check to see if they Topo 1M are available in my area?  Southeast Michigan (near Ann Arbor)

thanks,

Topo 2M ?

Hi,

If Topo 2M is not working that means there's a problem decoding .GIF files on your system.  2M, 8, 32 and 256 are GIF (the rest are jpeg).  8, 32 and 256 are turned off by default since they are somewhat redundant (and gifs are slower to decode anyway).

2M maps are also redundant (they are the same base maps as 4M).  However, they are gif and better resolution so in some cases they are nice to have.

My first suggestion is to check your screen depth.  Some video cards don't work with our gif library (Corona) if they are in 16 bit screen depth mode.  Try switching to 32 or 24 if so.

Easiest thing to do is just turn of Topo 2M so you can zoom in all the way on Topo 4M.

Let me know if any of this helps.

Topo 2M ?

Hi Krein,

Thanks for the quick reply.  My PC is a Sony VAIO FS-570 laptop with the Intel 915 GM chipset.  It's set to 32bpp now.  It doesn't have an option for 24bpp color; only 32 and 16.

I've turned off the Topo 2M as you suggested so I can zoom in on 4M.  I was hoping that I might be able to get the resolution that I have with TOPO! maps.  I bought the Michigan state series map which, at level 5 zoom, has crisp 7.5' topos.

Maybe some day...  I'll be able to bring map data into TopoFusion from TOPO!.

thanks,
