I broke the logbook
« on: August 27, 2004, 02:19:28 PM »
I just downloaded topofusion yesterday and I was playing around - I have gone for two bikes rides - somehow some other listing got entered in the logbook.  It didnt show up in the calendar view but when I clicked summary it did show.  I wanted to get rid of the random listing so I opened up the TFLog.csv - I deleted the row with the offending data and returned to the log - all the rides where now gone and even when I add the two ride back in it will not show them in the logbook.  Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Tobias

It is possible you somehow messed up the logbook file, though I have successfully deleted, copy/pased, etc into it before.

Just delete the file and start over again.  If two files end up on the same day you can remove (inside the program) both of them, then do "add all files to log book" with only the file you wanted for that day loaded.  We hope to have a better way to handle multiple files per day soon.

Post again if you're still having problems.  There could be a problem that needs a further look.

Ok - I got the summary info to show again, but the info does not show on the calendar - only when I choose summary will it actually show the data.  Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Tobias

Well - I uninstalled topofusion and reinstalled.  Added the data back in and everything is working fine now.

Let me ask this - do you all put each download in a new file or add to an existing file?

Thanks,
Tobias

Deleting the logbook file should have the same effect as reinstalling.

The general convention that TF was designed around was to have each ride (or run, hike, etc) in a separate file.  It's much easier to manage, simpler to transfer to other people and also runs faster.

The logbook assumes that each file is for only a single day.

Hi,

I had to wipe my hard drive. I copied the old TFLog file over to the TF directory but nothing shows up under the log book. But if I open it as an Excel file, I can see all the data. Any ideas on why this is and how to fix it? I'm running Vista.

Thanks,

Rich

Hey Rich,

Likely the log file isn't quite in the right place.  In Vista it overrides certain paths and directs them elsewhere.  I can't recall exactly where c:\program files\topofusion goes, but I'd do a system wide search for GPX files you have downloaded, or I think even the .ini file goes there.

If you've downloaded anything there should be another TFlog.csv at that location too.

Hope that helps.  Also be careful re-saving in excel.  Sometimes it puts quotes around the strings and gives some trouble.  Not all versions seem to do that, though.

Thank Scott. A system search shows the same (imported) TFlog.csv file in two places (ProgramFiles/TopoFusion and Users/Name/AppData/Local). I only viewed the csv file in Excel; I did not save it.

Not sure what you mean by "I can't recall exactly where c:\program files\topofusion goes"

All I meant was the path you listed above - users/name/app data/local.

I guess windows copied it there by itself?

Anyway, why don't you send me your log file and I'll see if I can get it to load.

Thanks.

I side-banded the file to Scott the other day. Wasn't sure how to get it to you.

And yes, Windows placed it there on its own.

Thanks for your help.
