PDA Motorola Q, interface Garmin Etrex
« on: October 15, 2007, 06:41:27 PM »
Have Motorola "Q" combo PDA Cell phone. want to download maps gps Topofusion to it.  (has internet Verizon interface but too expensive per month) Input is a USB port. Q runs microsoft type software. Q has big memory chips available also.      I also have Garmin Etrex Legend that runs a serial cable (has 8 megs of memory)   Would like to interface these together with my laptop running Windows XP.
2. Garmin wants $50 for USB cable is there a cheaper cable?  plans to make own or is there interface hardware in their cable?

Hi,

I'll try to answer your questions.  Not sure if you meant it this way, but there's no way the phone will run TF nor can you get many/any maps onto it.  I suppose you could export some .jpgs with worldfiles, if the phone supports that.  But you won't get downloading maps.

As for connecting the Legend to the GPS, I really have no idea.  The USB cable that the garmins use are a standard (mini-B, I think) so you shouldn't need to make one.  Or does Garmin make one specifically for that phone?

I'm curious, in any case.  Maybe you can clarifiy a bit more what you're trying to do.

Thanks.
