Exception in Network Analysis
« on: November 21, 2004, 09:58:30 PM »
Topofusion v2.1

I am getting an error about 90% of the time I try to generate a network using a given set of tracks.  I can successfully generate a network some of the time using default settings or by maximizing both contraction and reduction.  The rest of the time I get the following error dialog:

Topofusion
Exception: Access Violation, in Manager Thread (Network)
OK

After this error, there may also be a paint error.  In either instance, the program display is unresponsive following the error(s) and the program must be restarted to regain functionality.  Where do I go from here?

Thanks for reporting the bug.  There are so many odd ball corner cases when combining tracks that every once in a while someone finds a bug like this.

Can you send me all of your tracks (in a zip file)?  smorris@topofusion.com

Thanks.

I've emailed a .zip of the files in question.  It's kind of a mess of data collected over the last few years using differing equipment and methods.  The network has failed to generate on a different PC, although it did look encouraging after the first try was successful.

While you look at this, I am going to try to manually clean up some of the tracks and see if that helps the situation.

I've cleaned up the files and deleted some of the duplicates.  I now find that I can successfully generate a network if I exit the program and restart it each time I generate a network.  If I do not restart, any successive (second) attempt to generate a network results in the above error and the program must be shut down anyway.

This is odd because I thought I had taken care of this problem (or a similar one).  I'll take a look and thanks for being patient with it.

Missed the first line of your post -- you are on 2.1.

I'll try it some more to see if I can reproduce the crash.

I still cannot get it to crash.  Make sure you're using v2.1 and try the default settings for red/cont strength.

I've run it 4-5 times in the same session with no problems.

If it still crashes it could be the order the files are loaded, believe it or not.  Try removing them all, then adding "all" so they are added in filesystem order.
