Automation error at start up
« on: March 31, 2005, 09:40:58 AM »
I am getting a Topofusion 2.5 error:

Module:frmMain
Procedure: Load
Line Number: 891
Error Number: -214741848
Description: Automation error
The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.

After that Topofusion opens but there is no map loaded. I only get this problem when a restricted user trys to open Topofusion.  The local admin and a Super User can open Topofusion without an error.  I figure its a permissions issue but I gave the C:\PF\Topofusion folder "modify" rights but that didn't fix the problem.  Any ideas?

I tried deleting the ini file and recreating it but that didn't work.

Hi,

I just tried creating a restricted user, then logging in as that user and running TopoFusion.  It worked just fine.  I don't know much about windows security -- it was just the default "restricted" user.  Maybe there are other settings for your user(s)?

Also, which OS are you running?  I will try to think of what else could be causing it.  Write permission in the map directory is a must, also in the TF directory itself for the ini file.

I am using Windows XP SP2.  When Topofusion loads, does it write items to the registry?  Has there been any problems with the Windows firewall?
I'll keep tweaking and let you know what I find.

Thanks for your help!

No, we don't touch the registry in the program itself.  The only registry entries are due to the installer and that's only uninstall info.

No problems with windows firewall, but of course TF needs permission to make TCP requests on port 80.  But that shouldn't cause an error on startup.

Do let us know if you figure it out.  I'm puzzled by it.

Using InCtrl5 to see what files and registry settings are modified, I noticed that Topofusion kept trying to write to C:\error.jpg.  After I allowed modify rights to C:\PF\Topofusion and modify rights to C:\error.jpg the program ran fine.

Thanks for your help.

Interesting.  Thanks for getting back to us with the fix.

We really shouldn't be writing a files there -- that is clearly a remnamt from debugging or something.  I will have to take a look at it.

Thanks again.
