MC Techfest ’09, day 2

After all the energy torched on SoMo the day previous, it was time for a ‘recovery’ day at the 50 Year Trail, here in Tucson (recovery only due to the lack of punishing uphill sessioning). Louis was available to show us the goods and push us to ride stuff we might not otherwise. Paula also joined the ride, on bike, to see what silliness a day on the rocks entails.

Mike is the main star of the vid, which is fitting since he was the star of the day. From my perspective he owned the place, riding almost everything Louis pointed him to, and more. A couple of the lines in the above video had never been ridden before. Super impressive and very fun to watch.

Warm up with a ‘little’ gap jump.

Roll some saguaro studded rock faces.

Climb a bit, too.

Paula’s a superstar!

Mike flatted, and while he fixed it, I grabbed his fancy camera and took some pics of Paula sessioning the above ledge/bridge. She was pretty excited to ride it and be a part of the fun.

I rode the above “move” but my landing was anything but smooth. I can try to blame it on a suspension setup failure, but it was enough to flip the ‘caution’ switch up a bit.

Paula heading over toward the Chasm of Doom.

Mike descending into the Chasm.

Louis, amidst bike contortion, about to kick a super smooth nose wheelie turn, all on the precipice of the Chasm.

Camera wizard at work.

I passed on that one.

And that one. I think I can go contently to the grave without riding that or any other more-than-vertical faces.

Alan nailed it though. Along with most everything else out there. Pretty sweet for his first time out at the 50!

Couldn’t pass on this one. Too much fun, it is.

A fine day on the rocks. I needed it.
