Area 52 East

Louis and I spent another day out on the orange rock.

First we took a few runs on the toilet tubes:

I had some fun in Photoshop on that one. I’ve always wondered how people combine multiple exposures of a moving figure.

I uncharacteristically hit a couple of drops I’d normally …. [Continue reading]

Antelope Peak Challenge

Lee and I successfully completed the Antelope Peak Challenge – to ride from Oracle to Antelope Peak, scramble to the summit, and ride back.

There is a race on Jan 27th:

I’m not going to give a full report, so as not to spoil anyone’s surprise (being in the mystery is more fun than …. [Continue reading]

KF

KF rolled into town and with no notice we were out riding.

Ride K.

KF is among the best technical riders I’ve ever seen. Cleaned everything on Krein save the two “unrideable” sections, that I’ve never seen anyone ride. Impressive for a first run.

We ran out of time, …. [Continue reading]

If you want GPS data, just let me know. I’m working on a map, as well.

This is an awesome “free …. [Continue reading]

Turtlin’ up

My body threw a minor fit this week. The pattern has been: 1.5 days solid computer time -> get burned out -> ride like crazy for 3-5 hours. Repeat.

Maybe the 3 hour ride in the 40 degree rain had something to do with it, but probably not.

So I’ve got to ease …. [Continue reading]

Photos

I’m the webmaster over at aztrail-build.org. I try to stay up with the updates and such. But sometimes, say when I have an academic deadline stabbing me in the eye, volunteer gigs get slid down in priority.

Richard G is the most prolific aztrail-build photographer, and he takes some good shots. In response to my …. [Continue reading]

Catch the bug

With all the rain paranoia, I left Friday AM to catch the Bug up on Mt. Lemmon. I was so impressed / enthralled by the descent of Bug Springs last weekend that I had to go back.

Meet my shuttle,

Nothing like the good old inclined plane to gain some quick …. [Continue reading]

Climb or die

The challenge is as follows:

Ride your bike from Tucson to Mt. Lemmon, on as much trail as possible.

– Park at the base of the Catalina Highway (or, bonus points – ride there). (2500′) – Stage 1: Ride up Milagrosa to the AZT (4000′) – Stage 2: Follow AZT over the saddle, …. [Continue reading]
