Congratulations to the only finishers and race winners, Tim McCabe and Zach Macdonald. They rode into the Alamo Canyon trailhead, the finish line, after four days, fifteen hours and forty two minutes on the trail. That’s an aggressive pace for three hundred brutal miles on the AZT.

I got to experience the first ~120 miles of it, riding with some good friends. I had a blast. I’ll write more about that leg of my journey soon. After two days regrouping, tweaking my bike and resting, I set out for a short trip on the Grand Enchantment Trail. That report will be forthcoming as well. It was a great time to be out on a bike, if short lived. I didn’t accomplish what I had set out to do, but I have no regrets and feel lucky to have been able to experience what I did. I’m looking forward to the next ride, and am quite happy that I didn’t run myself into the ground — for once!

At this point, that’s probably the most important thing to me.
