Over the Frozen Lemmon

Over the Lemmon is over. Here are the pics/map.

From an email to the SDMB group:

The short version:

It was cold. 31 degrees when I left my house at 5:30. 24 was the day-long high at the top.

Sub-25 degrees + 25 mph + 25 miles of downhill on the catalina highway = four …. [Continue reading]

The Outlook

This Saturday is Rudolph’s “Over the Lemmon” ride for SDMB.

114 miles 9000 feet of climbing around, and over Mt. Lemmon

I’ve done the loop before, with Erik K on his road bike, and it is not easy.

With each passing day the ride is looking more and more epic.

Tuesday – While …. [Continue reading]

Saguaro West

Hottie and I planned to hike/run Wasson peak. We also planned on helping out at the ALL (Accelerated Learning Lab). But first I had to survive a dental epic. It was supposed to be simple — just cement a crown in. But the office was crammed and the Dr was hopping back and forth between …. [Continue reading]

Control

I rolled out of American Flag ranch with Odin and high hopes of completing all of Oracle Ridge. We began the rollers and he flew up them effortlessly.

An hour into the ride we saw Mick Flarnt (Mark Flint) and his crew nearing completion of his Haul Road loop. They were floating down a …. [Continue reading]

Ride to the Hike

It’s the sensation that’s sweeping America! Hikers everywhere are letting their cars collect dust and riding bikes to the trailhead. As usual, I’m always into anything new and chic. So today I took the Suburbo assault route up to the Finger Rock trail and went for a short hike — just to be cool like …. [Continue reading]

The Stronghold

After a long night at Randy Acetta’s self-proclaimed “16th Annual Big Ol’ Holiday Party and Gift Exchange Extravaganza”, I was in dire need of fresh air and free thought. The party was not all bad; just too many people making too much noise for too long. At least for this kid.

So this morning it …. [Continue reading]

Pontotoc

“Dead” day on the campus of the university.

I went for a short but quick paced walk on the Pontotoc trail. It was overcast for most of the hike, but as I returned the sun came out, providing some nice contrasts. I managed to get a few decent pictures:

The Pontotoc Cliffs

Some nice clouds

Still Out

I attempted to ride in the foothills today.

My knee felt fine for the first 10 minutes or so, then I could feel a sharp pain right where I hit it. I kept going, dreaming that it would go away. I made it up one wash near Via Entrada, then found myself stopped, sitting under …. [Continue reading]

Knee

I am still playing it safe — not riding. My knee feels “ok”, but not 100%.

I’ve been reading over various journal entries and my logs from the past year. I relived the pain (mental anguish, not phyiscal pain) from those days of never ending knee problems.

I’ve been here many times before… …. [Continue reading]

Healing

Healing is well under way. I probably needed the rest anyway.

While I’m sitting here, under a self-imposed no riding order, thoughts are swirling about the 24 hour race in Feb. If my knee turns out ok (and it looks that way), I could make an attempt.

The thought of riding around in circles for …. [Continue reading]

Knee Again?!

Another reminder that good health, or injury-free riding, is not to be taken lightly; it is a fragile thing.

This earnest young cyclist put too much effort into a technical climb, today, on Milagrosa ridge. We were climbing the trail (backwards, as it is never ridden), and I was attempting a particularly nasty section.

Known Issues – v1.51

The current version has a few bugs that we have fixed; we’re going to be putting together a new version ASAP.

If your display bit depth is 16bit, the GIF map tiles will be scrambled and weird colors. It may also give access violations (crashes).

The GPSdialog will crash if you try to select the …. [Continue reading]

Moab

Two days burned (driving) for two days of bliss. Moab.

We arrived to small piles of snow in the parking lot.

11/28/03 AM – A nice walk to Delicate Arch with my entire family.

PM – 20 miles of fun on the new “sovereign” singletrack north of town. I followed closely behind …. [Continue reading]
