Chivo

I convinced Odin to head out to Chivo falls this morning, hoping that after last weeks rain we might catch some descending water.

The morning was perfect as we climbed Redington. No one was there and the landscape spoke silence. The high desert grasslands were green and beautiful.

As we rolled onto the new Arizona trail I was overwhelmed with a sense of the present moment. I have waited long to feel healthy and strong. Today I felt it. I could ride forever. I was invincible to the sun. Climbs had no effect. I did not worry about my knees and when I rode hard my body did not revolt.

Things didn’t go as well for Odin. He slammed his knee on his bike attempting to climb a rock ledge. He limped on to the falls and dipped it in the frigid water.

I love it that we were the only people on the planet to mountain bike in the Redington area today. This is one reason I am still in Tucson.

Once home I was strangely not tired, but hungry enough to walk over to the local cooked flesh eatery (jack in the crotch) for iron-laden red meat and tasty fries. Then I hopped on my commuter, bound for more sun, school and the vision meeting.

Since it seems my riding longevity is a very fragile and delicate thing (witness the past year), I will take the opportunity to its fullest now that I can. With any luck I’ll be severly overtrained on or before the Soul Ride.
