Pontotoc Cliffs

We walked up to Pontotoc Cliffs this morning. Great day and fun hike.

There weren’t too many people out there for a nice Sunday morning.

In the afternoon I took hottie to the latest Stephen King movie. It was mostly awful, but the CG ‘animatrix’ was somewhat interesting. Paula likes her horror movies, and …. [Continue reading]

No Luck

I went for another ride today. Yes, I said another.

I rode off with Alan towards the Rillito and then said “till we meet again” as I turned right and he turned left to ride foothills suburban assault.

I planned on riding 30-40 minutes and never being further than 2 miles from home, so I …. [Continue reading]

A Ride

I went on a ride today. It was only 30 minutes long and only on neighborhood roads, but I will take what I can get. My knee feels a little funny, but it seems ok thus far.

After nine months of being limited by my right knee, now I’m limited by my left. So, not …. [Continue reading]

Topo

Power discussions between the big two of TopoFusion today. Or, the future is presenting itself, and we’re hopelessly lost in it. But hope is unreasonable.

I’ve become aware that we (through this site) present ourselves in a professional and real-company-like manner. This is most certainly a reputation that is undeserved. The idea being that we …. [Continue reading]

Recreation

I’m out at the Desert Museum this week for the Recreation Modeling Workshop. A number of people from around the country (and world) and from various gov. agencies are here to talk about modeling, the state of the art, and where to go from here.

I threw together a little poster about GPS, modeling and …. [Continue reading]

TBC

Spring Break has begun which means I’m accomplishing nothing. As it should be. WC3, Zelda Four Sword, etc.

A brave racer lost his life at the Tucson Bicycle Classic this weekend. My friends from Speed Bikes told me about it, then later I read more. Today someone asked my opinion on the matter. Many …. [Continue reading]

The Miracle Ridge

An SDMB group ride this morning.

It was another great ride on the new bike which means it wouldn’t be complete without jabbing knee pain. In the group were the two singlespeed heroes. They launched themselves up Redington. I quickly found that both pedaling hard and standing made my knee feel better, or, not as …. [Continue reading]

Terraserver Change

TopoFusion broke yesterday. Terraserver’s news page indicates they did a major upgrade. A side effect of the upgrade was that all copies of TopoFusion will no longer be able to download maps.

Alan has fixed the problem and a new version will be up soon, hopefully.

Cigarette Toughness

Alan and Paula reported seeing a man riding a bike, no hands, with cigarette in one hand and flashlight in the other. The question is, what would he have done if his cell phone started ringing– ditch the cigarette or the flashlight? Tough call.

I spent the day hiking and digging out in the …. [Continue reading]

Kuh-nee

My knee is much worse today. Big surprise. Welcome to the last 9 months where my riding is always limited by one or the other of my knees. Still, I’ve hammered out some solid rides while “managing” my various injuries. I remain nearly satisfied, but always thirsting for more.

The first GPS for my project …. [Continue reading]

She Chameleon

Inaugural ride on the Chameleon today. I rolled out to school for a talk @11am, then changed clothes and continued on to Tucson Mountain Park with Odin the great. We hit tech pass, JK trail and hedgehog before returning back through the university. In the end we had 30 miles and 2000 feet of climbing.

I pronounce Linux…

My advisor is collecting data for my project, but he doesn’t use Windows. I found a free linux program called GPSBabel that supposedly will save GPX files. He responded:

That program that you list below has very little documentation, and I could not figure out how to get tracks from the device.

Up and running

The diary is up and running.

Finished up the assembly of my Chameleon today. Hey! Let’s go out and ride it . . . oh wait, my knee. Walking around is fine–riding isn’t. Shoganai.

Things are rolling on the Speed Bikes web site. Lil’ sister is working her magic once again. I don’t know …. [Continue reading]
